Ayesh Wickramarathne graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fashion Design Studies from the University of Ratmalana in 2018. At his university’s Graduate Fashion Show, Ayesh won the Most Outstanding Designer award for his graduation collection. He then joined CFW as an Emerging Designer in 2019, where he presented an all denim collection. Using various sustainable denim fabrics, his collection included one-piece garments and aimed to merge designer wear with different finishing techniques through experiments with washes and printing methods. Although it was his first time at CFW, Ayesh was able to take home the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week NEXT Award due to his strong collection. This is Ayesh’s second year in the CFW Emerging Designer program.
Ayesh’s strength as a designer lies in his silhouettes, creative patternmaking and draping techniques. Ayesh Wickramarathne is also passionate about sustainable fashion, and continues to experiment with techniques such as natural printing and zero waste design practices, which he incorporates into his collections.
